Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes infections of the lungs and respiratory tract. It’s so common that most children have been infected with the virus by age 2. Respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-ul) virus can also infect adults. In adults and older, healthy children, RSV symptoms are mild and typically mimic the common cold. RSV infection can spread to the lower respiratory tract, causing pneumonia or bronchiolitis — inflammation of the small airway passages entering the lungs. Self-care measures are usually all that’s needed to relieve any discomfort. RSV can cause severe infection in some people, including babies 12 months and younger (infants), especially premature infants, older adults, people with heart and lung disease, or anyone with a weak immune system (immunocompromised)

RevoDx HSV-1 qPCR Kit
HSV-1 often causes oral herpes, which can result in cold sores or fever blisters on or around the mouth. However, most people with oral herpes do not have any symptoms. Most people with oral herpes get it during childhood or young adulthood from non-sexual contact with saliva.
In 2016 (last available estimates), 3.7 billion people under the age of 50, or 67% of the population, had HSV-1 infection (oral or genital). Most HSV-1 infections are acquired during childhood.
HSV-1 is mainly transmitted via contact with the virus in sores, saliva or surfaces in or around the mouth. Less commonly, HSV-1 can be transmitted to the genital area through oral-genital contact to cause genital herpes. It can be transmitted from oral or skin surfaces that appear normal; however, the greatest risk of transmission is when there are active sores. People who already have HSV-1 are not at risk of reinfection, but they are still at risk of acquiring HSV-2.

RevoDx HSV-2 qPCR Kit
HSV-2 is mainly sexually transmitted and causes genital herpes. Both oral and genital herpes are mostly asymptomatic or unrecognized but can cause painful blisters or ulcers at the site of infection, ranging from mild to severe. Infection is lifelong, and symptoms can recur over many years.
Genital herpes caused by HSV-2 affects an estimated 491 million (13%) people aged 15–49 years worldwide (2016 data). HSV-2 infects women almost twice as often as men because sexual transmission is more efficient from men to women. Prevalence increases with age, though the highest number of new infections are in adolescents.
HSV-2 is mainly transmitted during sex through contact with genital or anal surfaces, skin, sores or fluids of someone infected with the virus. HSV-2 can be transmitted even if the skin looks normal and is often transmitted in the absence of symptoms.

Infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV), known as herpes, is common globally. HSV type 1 (HSV-1) is typically transmitted by oral-to-oral contact and causes infection in or around the mouth (oral herpes), but it can also cause genital herpes. HSV-2 is mainly sexually transmitted and causes genital herpes. Both oral and genital herpes are mostly asymptomatic or unrecognized but can cause painful blisters or ulcers at the site of infection, ranging from mild to severe. Infection is lifelong, and symptoms can recur over many years. Some medications are available to reduce the severity and frequency of symptoms, but they cannot cure the infection. Recurrent symptoms of both oral and genital herpes may be distressing. In rare circumstances, herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2) can be transmitted from mother to child during delivery, causing neonatal herpes.

Human parechoviruses (HPeV) are responsible for gastrointestinal and respiratory system infections. that also have recently been recognized to cause a variety of symptoms ranging from mild diarrhea to sepsis and meningitis, particularly among young children. HPeVs belong to a large family of nonenveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses, the Picornaviridae, which comprises 12 genera. Rarely, parechovirus can cause sepsis, a severe blood infection, or meningitis or encephalitis, a severe infection of the membrane surrounding the brain. These are most common in babies younger than 3 months. Symptoms to look out for in babies and young children include: fever. irritability.

Human enteroviruses (HEVs) and human rhinoviruses (HRVs) are the two viruses that infect individuals most frequently globally.Rhinoviruses (RVs) and respiratory enteroviruses (EVs) are leading causes of upper respiratory tract infections, acute asthma exacerbations, bronchiolitis, viral pneumonia and among the most frequent infectious agents in humans worldwide. Both are classified in the Enterovirus genus within the Picornaviridae family. They can also be spread by contact – either with the infected person (like kissing or shaking hands), or by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes. These viruses can survive on surfaces for many hours. Symptoms usually include: sore throat, cough and nasal congestion, wheezing and dyspnea, to hospitalization requiring supplemental oxygen, or much less commonly lead to fulminant respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation.

Mumps is a contagious disease caused by a virus mumps virus that is an RNA virus in the family Paramyxoviridae. The virus is primarily transmitted by respiratory secretions such as droplets and saliva, as well as via direct contact with an infected person. It typically starts with a few days of fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and loss of appetite. Then most people will have swelling of their salivary glands (often referred to as parotitis when the parotid gland, located in front and below the ear, swells). This is what causes the puffy cheeks and a tender, swollen jaw. Mumps is most recognizable by the painful swellings in the side of the face under the ears (the parotid glands), giving a person with mumps a distinctive “hamster face” appearance.

African swine fever (ASF) is a devastating hemorrhagic swine fever with high morbidity and mortality caused by African swine fever virus (ASFV), a large double-stranded DNA virus. The ASFV genome is a virus that ranges in size from 170 to 193 kbp among different isolates and contains between 150 and 167 open reading frames (ORFs). ASFV has various genotypes, a large number of coding proteins, and forms a complex structure. Therefore, it has escape mechanisms from host immune cells. Pigs are infected by virus-carrying ticks and other ticks in their bodies become infected by pigs with high viremia. This allows the epidemic to spread among other pigs. The ASFV virion is highly stable in vitro and provides favorable conditions for direct pig-to-swine transmission. The virus can be easily transmitted through contaminated pork products and mixed feed.
