RevoDx  Mumps Virus qPCR Kit

Mumps is a contagious disease caused by a virus mumps virus that is an RNA virus in the family Paramyxoviridae. The virus is primarily transmitted by respiratory secretions such as droplets and saliva, as well as via direct contact with an infected person. It typically starts with a few days of fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and loss of appetite. Then most people will have swelling of their salivary glands (often referred to as parotitis when the parotid gland, located in front and below the ear, swells). This is what causes the puffy cheeks and a tender, swollen jaw. Mumps is most recognizable by the painful swellings in the side of the face under the ears (the parotid glands), giving a person with mumps a distinctive “hamster face” appearance.

RevoDx African Swine Fever Virus qPCR Kit

African swine fever (ASF) is a devastating hemorrhagic swine fever with high morbidity and mortality caused by African swine fever virus (ASFV), a large double-stranded DNA virus. The ASFV genome is a virus that ranges in size from 170 to 193 kbp among different isolates and contains between 150 and 167 open reading frames (ORFs). ASFV has various genotypes, a large number of coding proteins, and forms a complex structure. Therefore, it has escape mechanisms from host immune cells. Pigs are infected by virus-carrying ticks and other ticks in their bodies become infected by pigs with high viremia. This allows the epidemic to spread among other pigs. The ASFV virion is highly stable in vitro and provides favorable conditions for direct pig-to-swine transmission. The virus can be easily transmitted through contaminated pork products and mixed feed.

RevoDx JC Virus qPCR Kit

JCV is a DNA virus belonging to the polyomavirus family. Studies on serum samples have shown that people typically experience asymptomatic primary infection with JCV during childhood, usually before the age of 5. By the time individuals reach adulthood, approximately 85% of the population has antibodies indicating past exposure to the virus. After the initial infection, JCV enters a latent phase in various parts of the body, including the kidney, bone marrow, and tonsils. It remains uncertain whether the virus also enters a latent state in the central nervous system (CNS). In immunocompetent individuals, JCV reactivation often occurs without symptoms, manifesting as asymptomatic viruria.

Polyomaviruses are a family of widespread and species-specific viruses classified under the Papovaviridae family. The two most prevalent polyomaviruses in humans, BK virus and JC virus, were first identified in the 1970s. Many individuals encounter these viruses during childhood, resulting in mild illnesses. However, in immunocompromised individuals, these viruses, when reactivated or acquired, have been linked to various clinical conditions. BK virus is commonly associated with renal issues such as ureteral stenosis, hemorrhagic cystitis, and nephropathy. It can also, although less frequently, lead to conditions like pneumonitis, retinitis, liver disease, and meningoencephalitis. JC virus is best known for its connection to progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy and is possibly involved in the development of different human tumors.
