RevoDx TORCH qPCR Kit

Torch infections are a group of infections that can affect pregnant women and their unborn babies. The term “TORCH” is actually an acronym that stands for several different infectious agents: Toxoplasma gondii, Rubella virus, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Herpes simplex virus (HSV), as well as others such as syphilis, varicella-zoster virus, and parvovirus B19. Molecular diagnostics for TORCH infections typically involve detecting the genetic material (DNA or RNA) of these pathogens using techniques like polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR allows for highly sensitive and specific detection of even small amounts of genetic material from these pathogens in various clinical samples, such as blood, amniotic fluid, or tissues. These molecular diagnostic tests are important for identifying TORCH infections early in pregnancy, as they can help guide medical management and treatment to minimize the risk of complications for both the mother and the baby. Early detection and appropriate interventions can significantly improve outcomes for infants affected by TORCH infections.

Intended Use

RevoDx TORCH Pathogen Detection Kit is a real-time PCR test intended for the qualitative detection and identification of nucleic acids of the specific protozoan and viral pathogens from amniotic fluid (AF), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), chorionic villi samples (CVS) and urine specimens. It is intended for individuals exhibiting signs and/or symptoms of infection or to confirm positive results obtained through TORCH serology.

The following pathogens are detected by RevoDx TORCH Pathogen Detection Kit:

Viruses

  • Rubella virus (RuV)

  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

  • Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1)

  • Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2)

Protozoa

  • Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii)
