RevoDx Eastern Equine Encephalitis qPCR Kit
Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), also known as Triple E or sleeping sickness, is a zoonotic disease caused by a mosquito-borne Togavirus, primarily found in the Americas and the Caribbean. First identified in Massachusetts in 1831 after an outbreak in horses, EEE primarily affects horses, donkeys, and zebras, though it can rarely infect humans. The disease, commonly found in the eastern United States, especially along coastal plains, has economic impacts due to its effects on livestock. In Florida, 1–2 human cases and over 60 equine cases are reported annually, with equine cases exceeding 200 in favorable years.
